Meet the School Governors

Chair Of Governors - Jamie GoateChair Of Governors - Jamie Goate

I have lived in East London all my life, and since 2013 have held the role of Chair of Governors for Southwood Primary School.  I live locally to the school with my wife, two children and two dogs. Both of my Children have attended Southwood Primary School and have had great experiences.  I also work as a Non-Executive Director for BDSIP which is the local school improvement company based in Barking and Dagenham – I am also the Director at a full fiber internet company based in London. Education is important to me which is why I'm furthering my knowledge studying leadership and management at the London Business School.  I love being part of the School and working with all the Staff, Children, and community to provide the best outcomes and experiences for everyone.

Vice Chair Of Governors - Liz Lawrence

Liz Lawrence (Vice Chair) is a co-opted governor. She chairs the Curriculum, Community and Achievement Committee. Until recently she worked in school improvement, supporting Barking and Dagenham Primary Schools. She is now semi-retired but still working in education. Liz believes in the importance of giving children a wide range of experiences and opportunities within and outside the curriculum, including science, technology, sport and the creative arts. She is proud of what Southwood Primary School offers to its pupils and how nurturing and inclusive it is.

Co-opted Governor - Carol Dickson

I have been actively involved in education since 1979 - both in South Africa and then here in the UK for the past 21 years - as a teacher, English Subject Leader and a Deputy Head. I am currently a governor at another local primary school and became a co-opted governor at Southwood Primary School in September 2021.  I believe it’s so important that children learn to read fluently as quickly as possible as fluent readers will learn more, because they can read and gain knowledge for themselves.

Co-opted Governor - Matt Hollins

I have been a resident of the Borough of Havering since 2007 with an interest in supporting improved education and future prospects of children within the communities. I am occupationally skilled in resource development at a regional level for one of the biggest mainstream telecommunications network providers. Father to 3 young children and active charity fundraiser.

Local Authority Governor - Cllr Dr Elizabeth Kangethe

I have been a councilor in Parsloes ward since 2010. Current cabinet member for Educational Attainment and Schools improvement in LBBD.  A qualified teacher with over 25 years teaching experience in England most of the years in Havering. LLB and LLM holder International Law and Legal practice . A community champion among the BAME Community. Past Mayor in  Barking  and Dagenham. Vice president of London Mayors Association.

Co-opted Governor - Amy Eldridge

I have lived in Dagenham my whole life whilst also working locally.  I have worked in a school office within the borough and now run a local cleaning company so have active school and business experience.  Both of my children attended Southwood Primary School from Nursery to Year 6.  I have always had an active interest in supporting the local school community.
